Chiefly groups of family and friends at picnics and other leisure outings, photographed by amateur photographers. Individuals
pictured include Captain and Mrs. J.C. Ayres, the Mizner family, R.S. Rodman, and members of the Carroll, Hooker, Adams, McAllister,
McFarlane, Eldridge, Atherton, Babcock, Pacheco, and Shattuck families, among others. Many images exhibit playfulness and
humor. Includes views in and around Benicia, Calif., the Benicia arsenal, the baths (public swimming pool) at Monterey, home
interiors, etc. Also includes one view of the band of Geronimo in custody at Fort Bowie, Arizona Territory (dated Sept. 8,
1886), a group portrait of men mounted on horseback who may have been the captors of Geronimo, a group on the U.S. Coast Survey
ship C.P. Patterson in Alaska, and an army surveyor at work.
